5 How to transition from full time work to freelance copywriting: You don’t need to reveal you plan to leave in the future Be as ethical and upfront as you can – don’t compromise your principles – if you can’t put what you’re doing on the front page of the paper, should you be doing it?

6 Ways to incubate your business while you work elsewhere: Plan ahead – if you’re currently working, how long do you want to be there before you leave? Train up – what training can you gain from your current workplace? Skill up in the time you have – what experiences can you gain at your workplace?

7 Ways to incubate your business while you work elsewhere: Offer to: –write the company newsletter –write copy for the company website –design the company brochure (and that you’re prepared to enrol in a class to learn it!)

8 Ways to incubate your business while you work elsewhere: Offer to: –build an app for the company (and that you’re prepared to enrol in a class to learn it!) –explore email marketing options for the company (and that you’re prepared to enrol in a class to learn it!)

9 Why do you need a ‘team’ of suppliers? You need a range of people to help you build your business Know who they are in advance so you don’t get caught out and have to use a sub-standard supplier

10 Why do you need a ‘team’ of suppliers? If you know what they can do for you, it will reduce your stress knowing that a supplier is there for you Think of them as ‘strategic alliances’ – people who help you but who can also give you business You make them look good!

11 Developing strategic alliances: These suppliers will get work from you (and offer to refer them if you like their work) These suppliers can also give you work Web developers, graphic designers etc need copywriters to make their work look good – one web developer could have 30 clients!

12 Who do you need? Graphic designer Photographer Website developer Accountant or book keeper Printer IT support service Video producer/camera person Meeting venue Business coach or Mastermind group Cleaner – optional but nice

13 How to use your team of suppliers wisely: If you need to get something made or created, save them and you time and money by finding a model similar to what you need Send it to them and ask for a quote

14 How to use your team of suppliers wisely: Get quotes in writing If you want to build the relationship, and it’s feasible, meet with them to see their portfolio
