HIS Members Involvement Comments : - Since 2003, 2 new members joined HIS - special thanks for the activities of Vladimir Nikora, Dusan Prodanovic, Ichiro Fujita, Jochen Aberle, Claudio Fattor, and Bernhard Westrich (chairman of EMS) - Excepting few cases, the activity of individual members is still limited, not driven by resolute and sustained action and individual initiatives -Individual assigments will be made and reporting modalities will be established in this meeting (discussion) - new member nominations sought for

Followups Thessaloniki HIS Instrumentation database has grown from 27 to 77 instruments currently. More attention and work is needed to advertise it. – charge HIS member Nikora’s initiative “In-situ estimation of bed shear” has been advertised and eventually has materialized with the submission of a paper to JHE: “A comparative study of erosion potential of cohesive beds using NIWA in-situ flumes,” K. Debnath, J. Aberle, V. Nikora, B. Westrich, and M. Muste - The paper will be also published on the HIS website HIS website update not made periodically – Charge HIS member

Interim Actions HIS was invited to contribute to the RDI’s workshop in Nice (France), July 2004. A paper on ADCP uncertainty was submitted by M. Muste September 2004: meeting in Stuttgart with Bernhard Westrich to discuss joint HIS- EMS action items and organizational issues

Interim Actions HIS was invited to organize a technical section “International Aspects of Flood Monitoring” for the Aqua Alta Trade Fair, Munich (January 2005). Four papers on flood measurements were presented by Reginald Herschy (UK): "The world's maximum observed floods -- ISO methods of measurement" Juan Gonzalez-Castro (US): “Acoustic-based flood monitoring in South Florida” Ichiro Fujita (Japan): “Non-intrusive flood monitoring method using imaging techniques” Phil Turnipseed (USGS-U.S.): “Innovations in the Measurement of Floods in the United States,”

P roposed Tasks Special issue for the Journal of River Basin Management: “ From Traditional to Modern Hydrometry” (Charge HIS member) Continue to closely collaborate with EWRI’ TCHME (special issue of JHE on Acoustic Measurements – contributions?) - MM A new Symposium on Hydraulic Measurement and Instrumentation will be organized in 2007, Upstate New York – MM

P roposed Tasks Topics for IAHR Congress (Venice 2007) 1)Innovative acoustic measurements for riverine environment (ADCP, ADV, UVM) 2) Non-contact, real-time measurements of river hydrodynamics – Followed by a special Issue in JHR 3) Multi-task sensors and sensing networks for cyberinfratructure-based platforms

Proposed Tasks (members’ contribution)
