2. Location Clear pattern of residential location. Highest residential cities are associated with inner-city areas and include terraced housing from the 19 th Century. Residential density in the city centre (CBD) is low due to high land values. With increasing distance away from the city centre, residential density decreases reflecting a greater availability of land in the suburbs.

3. Past Vs Present Poorer households used to be located in the inner city close to jobs where, whereas high- quality housing is located further out. Over the last 30 years, urban densities have increased in suburban areas due to decentralisation and edge-of-town tstates.

4. The Family Life Cycle Housing choice is partially related to life cycle and income. A person is likely to move around different zones of a city depending on their age and their need for a house of a certain size. Choice is influenced by income, employment, lifestyle, age and other authorities etc.

6. Ethnicity In many cities there are clearly defined ethnic or racial areas. Sometimes a population decides to live apart from the dominant population group in order to maintain their cultural integrity (positive segregation). However sometimes the minority is excluded from society and is unable to afford the housing in more affluent areas (negative segregation).
