2 Rocks that have been changed because of changes in Heat Pressure Or the presence of hot, watery fluids Can be formed from igneous, sedimentary, or other metamorphic rocks

3 The pressure comes from the rock layers above The heat increases as you go through the layers Each type of metamorphic rock can come from several kinds of parent rock Example- sedimentary rock – shale will change to slate but when more pressure is applied then it can change to phyllite, then schist, then gneiss

4 When the mineral grains line up in parallel layers Slate- used as a roofing material because it is watertight

5 No layers Sandstone becomes Quartzite Limestone becomes Marble
