1 Copy the following in your journal: A sentence is the basic unit of language which expresses a complete thought. A sentence fragment fails to be a sentence in the sense that it cannot stand by itself. Now, number your paper 1-5, and write “S” for a complete sentence, and “F” for a sentence fragment. 2 Like yesterday, label each sentence with an “S” or an “F” to determine whether or not it is a complete sentence. If it is a fragment, change it to make it a complete sentence. 1. 3 Demonstrative Pronouns Demonstrative pronouns are this, that, these, and those. Like all pronouns, they replace nouns. Demonstrative pronouns are used to replace specific people or things that have been previously mentioned (or are understood from context). 1. _________ is one of the places mentioned in the brochure. 2. _________ are beautiful quilts on the counter. 3.
