913.888.0772 | imodules.com Demystifying Website Redesigns Presented by: Chris Smith & Chris Grosdidier

Things we’ll “demystify” Deciding, am I ready for a redesign? What research should I do before redesigning? Match Design vs. Custom Design, what’s the difference? Should you go with Standard Templates or Hybrid? What type of housekeeping should I do to my site? I want a redesign! So … when can we launch it?

How do I know when it’s time to redesign? Does your website still excite you? Does your site have a lot of text heavy, outdate or unused areas? Are you losing visitors or falling short of goals? How long have you been with your current design? What’s the status of your mobile presence?

Make your redesign successful, research first! Google Analytics: – Mobile traffic – Site Content (pageviews) – Landing Pages (traffic patterns) – In-Page Analytics March 2014April 2014May 2014

More research Surveys: – Surveys offer a low-cost way to get feedback – Try providing a link to your survey on your homepage or through an email campaign – You don’t have to apply every suggestion but this info coupled with your Google Analytics will help to give you some great insight into what needs to change

More research Focus Groups & Usability Testing: – These often require more management (and possibly more money), but the feedback can be invaluable – Actually seeing how someone interacts with your current design and possibly your new one will give you better insight

This is the last research topic, I promise Third-Party Testing: – While it does come at a cost, third-parties can be extremely beneficial if you don’t have the resources or knowledge to do your own testing – Here are a couple third-party companies to help get you started: usertesting.com & optimalworkshop.comusertesting.comoptimalworkshop.com

Match Design vs. Custom Design iModules Design Current Design Match Design (why?): – Institutionally mandated design requirements – Your website was recently redesigned – You want to keep a seamless transition between your main site and iModules site

Match Design vs. Custom Design iModules Design Current Design Custom Design (why?): – Results from your research shows that a design overhaul is needed – You want some separation between your iModules site and your main site – Having iModules design your site will make the redesign process go more smoothly

Standard Templates vs. Hybrid Standard Template: – Optimized to fit on a desktop computer monitor – Design choices and functionality are created more for keyboard and mouse users – Has the option for the Mobile Ready Template design – requires a separate mobile template

Standard Templates vs. Hybrid Hybrid: – Optimized to fit on a desktop, tablet and smartphone devices – Design choices and functionality are created to be finger friendly – Keeps a consistent look and feel across all devices – One template controls all of the breakpoint structures

It’s time for a little housekeeping Optimize and restructure your navigation: – When you make it easy for your constituents to find what they want, they will stay on longer and come back more often – Think about where you want to drive your users and help them get there as quickly as possible, navigation is the roadmap for your site

It’s time for a little housekeeping Clean up that content: – Use the research data to reorganize, reduce and streamline your content – Start getting your content mobile ready – Think about more than just the homepage, your internal content is what keeps people on your site!

It’s time for a little housekeeping Don’t leave your emails in the dust: – If you are launching a new design chances are you are going to send out an email about it right? – By redesigning your emails to complement the new design you are reinforcing the new brand to your users – If you are going to redesign your email template why not make them mobile ready as well!
