Welcome to Theatre Arts! You are in Mrs. McCarty’s room 401. This is Theatre II, our intermediate Theatre Arts class. This Power Point can be found on my website Tonight, I hope to be able to answer these questions for you:  What will my student be doing in Theatre Arts this year?  What does my student do on a day-to-day basis in Theatre Arts?  When can I come watch my student perform?  What is the best way for me to stay in touch about Theatre Arts class?  What are some “hard and fast” rules in the Theatre Room?  How will my student be assessed in Theatre Arts?  How can I help out the Theatre Arts department? Our time tonight will fly by! If I don’t answer your questions, please e- mail me mccartya@ltisdschools.org or give me a call 512.533.5690

What will my student be doing in Theatre Arts this year? Intermediate Theatre Arts is all about gaining comfort on stage and becoming more familiar with our facilities and technical equipment. A big difference between Intermediate Theatre and Beginning Theatre is the use of scripted material and use of Theatre terminology and technology.

What does my student do on a day- to-day basis in Theatre Arts? Daily warm-up: journal/discussion, vocal/physical warm-up, or Star of the Week Guided learning – via schoology or direct teach Applying what we’ve learned – large group, small group, individually

When can I come watch my student perform? Multiple opportunities throughout the year. All will be done during the student’s class period, mostly here in the black box. Specific dates will be posted to the website and e-mailed home to parents. Upcoming projects include: ◦ Monologue performances (late September) ◦ Shakespearean Duets (late October) ◦ Class Play (Jan or Feb) ◦ Self-selected performances (end of year) ◦ And possibly others…

What is the best way for me to keep informed about Theatre Arts? Access weekly lesson plans on my website I will send home e-mails with important project dates, etc… Send me an e-mail! ◦ mccartya@ltisdschools.org Give me a call! ◦ 512.627.5824

What are some non-negotiables in the Theatre classroom? I work hard to have a good relationship with all students and foster mutual respect. Typical middle school behaviors are managed through consistent expectations and relationships with parents/students/admin. Here are a few “hard and fast” rules that don’t have much gray area: ◦ Absolutely no gum, food, drinks (other than water), candy, mints, etc… in the Theatre Arts Room. ◦ HBMS Tardy Policy is enforced. ◦ Treat our gorgeous facility with care and attention.

How will my student be assessed in Theatre Arts this year? 40% daily work – daily journals, discussions, warm-ups, small skits, vocal work, etc.. 60% major grades – performances (rubric- based assessments), tests, quizzes *A note about grades on schoology: While I do grade some assignments in schoology, the average posted there is not a true reflection of a student’s average because not everything is graded in schoology. Please refer to TxConnect for accurate, complete grades in this class.

How can I help out? We are always in need of: ◦ Safety Pins ◦ Bobby Pins ◦ Gently used hair and make-up products ◦ Men’s and Women’s dress shoes I’m also looking for: ◦ Someone to craft/sew/hot glue some “blackout” curtains for my 7 classroom windows! Show-specific needs throughout the year: ◦ I will e-mail parents with help requests.
