3. PERSONAL COMPREHENSION  Requires readers to respond with their feelings for the text and the subject. The answers are not found in the text; they come strictly from the readers.  While no personal responses are incorrect, they cannot be unfounded; they must relate to the content of the text and reflect a literal understanding of the material.

4. CRITICAL LITERACIES  Critical comprehension asks students to respond to questions such as: How do particular texts work? What effects do they have on the reader? Who has produced the text, under what circumstances, and for which readers? What’s missing from the account? How could it be told differently?  Readers are asked to question why are things the way they are? Who benefits from the status quo?
