1 Welcome back! Today is Thursday, April 10, 2014 1/5 Thank you for finding your way promptly to our temporary classroom. Please:  turn off your phones,  put them away,  take out your:  journals opened up to the notes you took on the 3 rd chunk of reading,  copy of the class novel,  writing utensil,  Makah editorial  Put backpacks on the floor, and  Prepare your journals for a Good Grammar Lesson

2 Good Grammar  “This means that…/This shows…” alternatives:  If _______, then…..  Given this, then….  Just state the explanation like a fact after the fact.

3 Good Grammar In an academic paper, you may ask a question in either the hook or state it as a parting thought, but nowhere else. It is neither a point, an illustration, or explanation. -ODIN

4 Today’s Learning Goal We will be able to better understand the events in Rowdy Sings the Blues to Grandmother gives me some good advice, Alexie’s motive for writing this book, and the part-time identities of my classmates. Progression of Learning  We will reflect on yesterday’s reading to identify evidence Alexie is using to communicate his message and discuss.  We will finish watching the interview and discuss.  We will finish our “Part-Time Me” Identity drawing assignment.

5 Journal Reflection As I check off your notes from the first reading assignment, answer the following questions in your journal. 1. How did your friends react to your decision to attend SAMI? 2. Have you ever reached out to some one new? Provide an example. Why or why not? 3. Provide an example of you having been bullied at school. 4. Provide an example of a time you bullied someone? 5. Describe Junior’s relationship with his grandmother.

13 Fist to Five  I am prepared to read Sherman Alexi’s The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian and understand his message. Homework  Read the first 25 pages of the book and  take notes (I will check the notes at the beginning of class and, if you have not read and taken notes, I will give your folks a call after school.) Your Editorials  Here they are. Correct and resubmit. We will be addressing the most common errors over the next seven days, so bring them to class every day. This unit is two-weeks long.  1/5 we will meet in the greenhouse tomorrow.
