1 Testing Method for Corrosion on Finished Gasoline Tanks 1 Upon notification by blender that a gasoline tank has been finalized and no more adjustments are needed, proceed to run the retain sample which had been caught along with octanes and RVP samples of gasoline samples. Never use RVP or octane samples and pour in retain bottles. 2Remove the silver strip from the iso octane jar. 3Polish the strip using the 240 grit paper on all 6 sides. Again handling with paper towel. 4Polish the strip using 150 grit paper on all 6 sides, again handling with paper towel. 5Pour out 30 ml of sample into a 125mm test tube and insert the polished strip. 6Place the test tube in the stainless steel pressure bomb and put in the corrosion bath for 3 hours at 122 F. 7After 3 hours, remove tube from bomb and discard fuel. 8Using tongs, immerse the strip in iso octane and bolt dry with paper towel. Inspect the strip for tarnishing or corrosion. Gereighty010/21/082 of 2 Testing Method for Corrosion on Finished Gasoline Tanks (continued) Interpretation of Results 9 Compare the strip to the color standard for Tube Deposit Rating Chart taking account even the edges of the strip. Note: This standard is only used to differentiate between the brown discolorations which appear. Any brown coloration less than No. 4 on the chart shall be rated classification 1 (pass). Any coloration equal to or darker than No. 4 will be classified 2 (fail) or darker. Official Classifications: 0 No Tarnish Identical to a freshly polished strip, but may have some very light loss of luster. 1Slight Tarnish Faint brown or white discoloration. 2Moderate Tarnish Peacock colors such as blue & mauve &/or dark brown ≥ No. 4 on chart. 3Blackening Uniform heavy blackening across strip. 10Only a classification of 0 or 1 pass test. All others fail and must not be approved For Sale. 11 If there is a question where a strip cannot be determined, notify the blender and they will either inspect the strip or have an on call chemist make the determination.  Procedure Completed Date: Prepared By: Approved By:
