1 A Sample PowerPoint Your Guide to Successful Note Taking in Class

2 Vocabulary and Key Terms Key Terms  These will be vocabulary terms for the section  You can define them here, but will required to complete a vocabulary sheet for every chapter  All Vocabulary will be underlined in the notes** **WHEN APPLICABLE Key Figures  These will be the important people in each section  You can identify them here but they will also be a part of your vocabulary sheet for every chapter  All key figures will be underlined in the notes**

3 Note Heading  Note Headings have No specific meaning, and are used as a way to keep track of where we are  Some note headings may contain jokes, a main idea, or a special challenge  For those taking notes in a notebook, they are not required

4 Discussion Question These will be higher level discussion questions based on the material from the night before or within the lesson!!

5 Sidebars  Notes will be available online the before the lessons  The BEST way to succeed in class will be to print out all chapter notes with the Three Slides per page option (Four can work as well)  This will allow for notes and fast facts to be jotted down during the lesson  Those fast facts may aide in your test studying OR lead to bonus points in class

6 Other Tips  Since all notes will be made available online, you are responsible for all make-up notes  Homework will also be available online, as well as in a handout I give in class  Homework Hotline will be updated weekly

7 Value of Notes  Success on tests and some quizzes  There will be a homework folder, but notes WILL be included and graded for completion  Note taking is a skill used in all High School and College Level Classes

8 Note taking Tips  You do not need to copy word for word  Use sidebars for additional explanation  Use notes as a reading guide if you print them prior to class  If you are taking notes in a notebook, that is fine  Notes will still be online  There will be roughly 2-3 minutes per slide so keep up  See me after class or during office hours for additional help

9 Conclusion  PowerPoints help minimize the amount of notes in class, but there will be times when Overheads may be used  PowerPoints should be printed at home, but if this is not possible the library is a nice second option, the Public Library is a GREAT third option  You are NEVER to print all slides one slide per page of paper  The above is a waste of time, paper and ink!! Use the Three (or four) slide sidebar method
