Be sure to support your position with evidence from at least three texts. Format Requirements: Your essay must be at least 2 pages and no more than 3 pages. 5 Brainstorm Write down a list of 3-5 cultural values/beliefs that we have seen in this unit Beside each cultural value/belief, write the text(s) in which it appears.

6 Thesis Review TOPIC+CLAIM+UNIVERSAL IDEA TOPIC = Cultural Value/ Belief CLAIM = Strong Verb UNIVERSAL IDEA = How the topic shapes one’s cultural identity EXAMPLE (you may not use this thesis): Stereotypes influence cultural identity by affecting one’s view of self and others.

7 Unit One Transfer Task Plan Choose a cultural value/belief and write it on your handout Write a thesis statement Decide on the texts that you plan to use, and write the titles in the space provided “In My Essay, I Plan to: COMARECONTRASTBOTH” CIRCLE ONE!

8 Find Your Evidence Use the chart at the bottom and on the back to record the evidence you think you can use in your essay. You must write the title of the text, write the quote that you plan to use (yes…the whole thing), and write your commentary that will tie your evidence back to your thesis.
