Our hypothesis is if a marigold grows better with a direct light source provided, then marigolds that are exposed to a direct light source will grow better than marigolds exposed to an indirect light source.

Basically, we tested to see if direct sunlight affected the growth of marigolds compared to indirect sunlight. To set up our experiment, we placed 5 marigolds in two separate pots and placed one pot(pot A) right next to the window and placed the other pot(pot B) one foot away from the window. We did this to see if pot A’s marigolds would grow faster and taller than the marigolds in pot B.

The things we did everyday to do our experiment:  Opened the blinds on the window for the marigolds to get sunlight  Every two days, we gave both pots a ½ cup of water  Every third day was a growth observation day. We made detailed measurements of the marigolds in both pots after they germinated  Also, everyday we put notes in our daily log.

What we did to set up our experiment:  We placed 5 marigold seeds in two separate flowering pots that each had 2 cups of soil in them.  The soil we used was Miracle-Grow  We evenly spaced out the marigolds in the pots  We placed the seeds ¼ inches in the ground  We gave each pot ½ cup of water every two days  We made growth observations every three days

One marigold in pot B started to wilt on day 51. That marigold died on day 53 and on day 53 another marigold in pot B started to wilt. That marigold died on day 55 and on day 55 another marigold in pot B started to wilt. That marigold died on day 57 and on day 57 another marigold started to wilt. That marigold died on day 59 and on day 59 another marigold started to wilt. That marigold died on day 61. We believe that all the marigolds in pot B died because they weren’t in the ground. Also, on day 61 one marigold in pot A started to wilt. That marigold died on day 63. We believe that that marigold died due to unlivable conditions for that specific marigold seed. We believe that all five marigolds died in pot B but only one died in pot A because the marigolds in pot B died due to a combination of limited sunlight and not being in the ground. Before the marigolds in pot B died, the marigolds in pot A were growing taller and faster than the marigolds in pot B. Our line graphs show that.
