 Indirect Object Pronouns Let’s review DIRECT OBJECT PRONOUNS first Direct Objects are the things that receive the action of the verb. To find out the Direct Object, ask yourself “¿Qué + verbo?” Como pizza todos los días. (I eat pizza every day.) o What do I eat? pizza! Direct Object Pronouns are words that replace the Direct Object. Como pizza todos los días. o La como todos los diás. (Goes before the conjugated verb) o Cómola todos los días. (Goes after the conjugated verb, is attached, and accent over the 3 rd to last syllable)

Indirect Objects & Indirect Object Pronouns  An indirect object pronoun tells to whom or for whom an action is performed. In order to identify an indirect object, take the verb in the sentence and ask “For whom?” or “To whom?”  Indirect Object Pronouns replace the Indirect Object in a sentence. Compré un recuerdo para ti. I bought a souvenir for you. For whom was the souvenir bought? YOU! Te compré un recuerdo para ti.

Indirect Object Pronouns  Indirect Object Pronouns must agree with the person they refer to. SingularPlural (yo) me (to/for me) (nosotros) nos (to/for you) (tú) te (to/for you) (vosotros) os (to/for you) (él, ella, usted) le (to/for him, her, you) (ellos, ellas, ustedes) les (to/for them, you all)

Where do Indirect Object Pronouns go?  Before the conjugated verb Le di un regaloI gave you a gift  When there is an infinitive with a conjugated verb, the indirect object pronoun can attach to the end of the infinitive or go before the conjugated verb. Mis padres me van a comprar una camiseta. My parents are going to buy me a shirt Mis padres can a comprarme una camiseta. My parents are going to buy me a shirt

Circle the verb, underline the Indirect Object, then rewrite the sentence with the Indirect Object Pronoun. 1. Escribí una carta para ti. 2. Mi mamá trae un vaso de agua para mi hermano. 3. Mis amigos ayudan a mi con la tarea. 4. Hice una pizza para mis amigos. 5. Mis abuelos compramos unos regalos para nosotros.

Write the IOP that corresponds with the Indirect Objects

Let’s sum up Indirect Objects & their pronouns  The Indirect Object tells us where the Direct Object is going.  The Indirect Object answers the question "to whom" or "for whom."  Sentences that have an Indirect Object usually also have a Direct Object.  Sometimes the Direct Object is not stated, but rather is implied, or understood.  The Indirect Object pronouns are: me, te, le, nos, os, les.  Place the pronoun before the conjugated verb.  Think in phrases, do not translate word-for-word.  Le and les are ambiguous.  Prepositional phrases are often used for clarity and for emphasis.
