9. SS1/May/029 Driving at Work The Vehicle must: be certified to Road Assurance Standard (RAS) and have a sticker displayed ! 10. SS1/May/0210 Driving at Work Why are these rules there ? They are there for one reason only - To prevent damage to PEOPLE, Environment, Equipment and Reputation. (Note: prevent Damage to PEOPLE is top of the list) Aren’t there too many rules ? Each and every rule is there for a good reason - Most road safety rules are there to prevent accidents, that have already happened, from happening again ! But why are we still having accidents ? This is mainly because people either do not know the rules OR they do not follow them.

SS1/May/0213 January 2002 Cameron (Muscat) Workshop crew bus involved in an accident in wet conditions 5 persons were injured - there were NO SEATBELTS for the passengers, the driver had a seatbelt and was not injured ! 14. SS1/May/0214 April 2002 MBPS(Fahud) Man attempted to cross a “pool of water”, despite the fact a Schlumburger truck was already stuck ! Would you drive across a Wadi ? Would you drive across a Wadi ? If you were a passenger would you let the driver cross ? If you were a passenger would you let the driver cross ?

SS1/May/0215 July 2000 DAMAC Catering Five men were returning to Muscat to take medicals, the vehicle had not been checked, it was planned as a day trip journey of +/-11hrs driving, the driver was inexperienced the pick-up left the road and rolled, this resulted in 1 Fatality + 3 serious injuries ! Would you have authorised this journey ? Would you have authorised this journey ?

16. SS1/May/0216 March 2001 Al Turki/Truck Oman An Al Turki pick-up tried to get across a junction before a truck passed. Was he in a hurry ? Did he not see the truck ? The driver and the left side passenger died, the two others in the pick-up were seriously injured ! If you were a driver or a passengers in the pick-up OR the truck how could you have prevented this ?
