Write down your homework: ▪ Finish Vocabulary Notes, and study them for 10 mins every night ▪ Study Common Core Vocab 1 at home every night for 10 mins too. 8 Columbian Exchange Prior to the weekend, we began to discuss the effects of the Columbian Exchange. We are going to wrap up the discussion on the exchange and go over the tribes that would have encountered Columbus and the early settlers of North America.

9 Native American Tribes What tribes did the early settlers encounter? How did these tribes differ? How could the geography of their territory affect the way they lived? How will the tribes and settlers change the other?

10 Native American Webquest Working with a partner or by yourself, and using the website, http://access.sd25.org/curriculum/Native Americans/index.html, we will determine the cultural differences amongst the tribes that the early colonial settlers would have encountered. 12 After Weekly 5 (for 30 mins) Log-on the Achieve 3000 for the remainder of class complete this week’s required readings. Readings Due: The Lost People, America Looks Back, and A Story of a Ship and People. Then pick your own.

13 Native AMerican Webquest FInish webquest that was started yesterday, if not completed Thursday. Must show me the summary to get classwork grade for today. Work on organizing your notebook, missing work for any class, AR or Achieve when done. I am out of candy.

14 Monday, 9/21/15 Come in and get your new warm-up sheet and add to your table of contents (side board) Warm-up: ▪ How did climate affect the lifestyles of the different culture areas of Native American? ▪ What is the first English settlement? *hint it’s located in NC. 16 Review N.Amer. Culture Areas Go over responses students should have gotten to the Native American Culture areas. Should take 20 mins through examples on webpage.

17 Carving up the US (15 mins?) Class discussion on how US is divided, and how divisions can still be seen today. Label map to go along with discussion so students can see a visual representation.

18 Begin Webquest on Roanoke Jamestown (remainder of class, in partners or on own) 1. What REALLY happened at the Lost Colony of Roanoke? 2. Why did they disappear? 3. Why did the Jamestown settlers come to America? 4. What did the settlers of Jamestown do differently in order to survive? 5. How will the settlers of Plymouth survive?

Answer warm-up questions based on the cartoon: (Evaluating a Political Cartoon) 1.How do the natives feel about the “illegals?” 2.Who are the illegals? 3.Evaluate: What do you think the cartoonist is trying to say?How could this relate to today’s issues in America or globally? Write down homework on Back Board.

20 Today we will... 1. Complete our investigation on the early English settlements of America through a webquest and reading guide. 2. Determine how the three settlements differ from each other.

21 Finish webquest on Roanoke and Jamestown (partners or alone) You have 30 mins to finish the webquest on Roanoke and Jamestown. Review as whole class. Call on students for answers before showing key.

22 Plymouth Reading Guide Working on your own, complete the reading guide. If you cannot finish it in class, it becomes homework along with the Triple Venn Diagram on the Early English Settlements.

32 Colonies Jigsaw Today we will become masters on one third of the colonies. We will either be assigned the New England Colonies, the Middle or Mid-Atlantic Colonies, or Southern Colonies. We will watch a podcast on our assigned colonies to gain information required for us to teach the rest of the class. Be as detailed as possible with your work, please and thank you.

36 Colonies Jigsaw (30mins) Today since we became masters of our colonial regions, we will teach the rest of the class. I will be splitting you up so we will have about 3 people per group teaching the other two about out topic. ▪ Example: I would teach my partners about the New England colonies by talking to them, not just showing them my paper. Then I will listen and record the information my teammates give me about their colonies.

50 In Library Mrs. Twigg will be teaching students how to use APA formatting for citing their sources. This was decided after speaking to the high school and finding out APA is used for most subjects. Will refresh students on the quick way to cite sources using bibme.org as well. Students will begin their projects in the media center by checking out books to use.
