The Ontario region is part of the Wet- Climate soil region of Canada these areas of the soil are saturated with water for most of the year this is because the wetland is in a depression so that water cannot easily escape this type of soil is also known for its high organic content most of Ontario’s soils are leached, meaning soluble constituents are removed from the soil this causes poor quality soil which contains thin topsoil farmers in Ontario use fertilizers in leached soil to develop farmland suitable for growing crops

found in southern Ontario in the St. Lawrence Lowlands formed under mild climates, such as the mixed forest and deciduous forest formed on parent materials containing a large amount of clay clay particles are sticky and less than 0.002mm is size Luvisolic soils in the Ontario region are quite fertile Gray Luvisol Landscape Gray Luvisol Profile

formed under humid, colder temperature conditions parent material is coarse and sand-textured soils has a considerable amount of leaching found in the coniferous forest this soil type covers most of the Ontario region Podzolic soils are very fertile in this region Humic Podzol Landscape Humic Podzol Profile

this type of soil is saturated with water in level humid- clay areas these soils have low chromas, or prominent mottling found in small areas of northern and eastern Ontario Cultivated Gleysolic LandscapeCultivated Gleysolic Profile

saturated soils for most of the year contains more than 17% of organic carbon this type of soil is largely found in the north of the Ontario region Cultivated Organic Landscape Cultivated Organic Profile

this is the smallest type of soil in the Ontario region this soil is found in the southeastern area of the region soils occur under a wide variety of vegetative and climatic conditions found in the St. Lawrence Lowlands landform region in Ontario Dystric Brunisol LandscapeDystric Brunisol Profile

The soil that makes up the Ontario region is part of the Wet Climate soil region of Canada This soil has a high organic component Northern Ontario has organic soil that saturated for most of the year Brunisolic soils make up the smalled region of Ontario in the lowlands of the St. Lawrence river Northeastern soil in Ontario has a clay component and is called greysolic soil Podzolic soil is found in the south and is formed under humid conditions Luvisolic soil is formed due to the mild climate and vegetation from the mixed and deciduous forests
