4 What is a simple sentence? Also called independent clause Contains a subject and a verb Expresses a complete thought

5 What are compound subjects and verbs? A simple sentence may have a compound subject Example: The dog and the cat howled. It may have a compound verb Example: The dog howled and barked. It may have a compound subject and compound verb Example: The dog and the cat howled and yowled.

6 What are prepositional phrases? Found in simple sentences (independent clauses) Common prepositions include: On, about, around, to, through, under, behind, before, over, across, between, etc. Example: Blake Shelton chose his first team member on The Voice.
