2 Source The source of the river is located 893m above sea level! It begins in Cumbria, in the North of England

3 Where does it flow? The river flows Eastwards for 137km It then ends up at the North sea between Redcar and Hartlepool. Banks of the river are covered in amazing scenery.

4 Geography The river has many tributaries and becomes wider and deeper downstream, because of: Erosion Depositation Transportation There are many processes at work in the upper course of the river, for example: hydraulic power, corrosion and attrition

5 Waterfall High force is the tallest waterfall in England It is 21 meters high The great power of the waterfall erodes the plunge pool below and causes rapids.

6 Course Middle-Less steep as flows downstream, sides of river erode. Deposits of sand and gravel increase. The river gets wider. Lower-Close to Yarm. Large meanders. Some led to formation of Ox bow lakes.

7 The Mouth The mouth is an estuary which is the river valley in lowland area that has been flooded. It is very wide with mudflats and sand banks

8 What’s the river used for? The River Tees has been used for transporting goods since the industrial revolution in Britain. Boats would go up and down the river bringing goods to different places. It also became important in developing new chemical industries. The river is now more commonly used for leisure and some water sports take place on it during the summer months.
