Dinosaur WebQuest Taylor Woodrow and Amanda Lappin

Dinosaur Explorers For this activity, you will need to get into groups of 4. Each person in your group will choose a role: you will need a paleontologist, an archeologist, and 2 dinosaurs.

Procedure Paleontologists and Archeologists will work together to discover facts about dinosaurs, they will be looking to answer the main questions of this project. The dinosaurs will learn about themselves from the scientists and prepare a short presentation.

Presentation Paleontologists and archeologists will teach the dinosaurs what they learn through their research. The dinosaurs will create an activity in which they are able to describe themselves to the class, including the scientific facts. They will describe how they look so that the class will be able to successfully draw the dinosaurs based on the descriptions.

Questions When and where did dinosaurs live? What did dinosaurs eat? Who studies dinosaurs? How many types of dinosaurs are there? What is extinction and why does it happen? How do scientists discover dinosaurs existence and their characteristics? Are there any animals still living that also lived back with dinosaurs?

Standards 11.A.2d: Use data to produce reasonable explanations 12.B.2a: Describe relationships among various organisms in their environments 12.B.2b: Identify physical features of plants and animals that helped them live in different environments 11.A.2e: Report and display the results of individual and group results 5.C.2b Prepare and deliver oral presentations based on inquiry or research 4.B.2a: Present oral reports to an audience using correct language and non-verbal expressions for the intended purpose and message within a suggested organizational format.

Extension Activities 1. Discover your own dinosaur! Use your own personal characteristics to describe a dinosaur, and then give it a name! Ex. Allie’s dino is an Allisaurous who is a herbivore and lives in a wooded area. 2. Dig your own fossil. Bury plastic dinosaur and using your archeologist tools, carefully uncover and clear your findings! 3. Make a graph or chart showing the most dino-populated areas of the world. 4. Find and report of 3 other extinct animals that lived with the dinosaurs. 5. Choose a dinosaur and draw it based on a description. Include a background of the environment they lived in.
