2 Step one Allow 30 min for the first consultation. This should include the removal of a few hairs. Explain to the client that all the information that is given during consultation is fully confidential. Explain the reason for consultation taking place before the treatment. 3 Step Two When did the hair growth problem start, did it coincide with any changes in their life. Check for contra-indications & medical history/medication – don’t forget referral procedures Establish the area to be treated Establish the expectations of treatment – are they realistic

4 Step Three What previous methods of hair removal have been used
Explain the benefits of electrolysis – don’t forget to ensure they realise permanent does not mean instant. Discuss an appropriate treatment plan to include most suitable method of epilation to use Record skin & hair type After treatment record needle size, spacing (eg 1 in 4),current intensity, contra-actions Allow time for questions Can you give 5 reasons for keeping records?

6 Classifications of hair growth
Lanugo – unborn foetus, usually shed at 8month or within 2 weeks of birth. Hair is soft and unpigmented Vellus – fine, downy, soft hair found on the face & body. No medulla present Terminal hair – deep seated, thick, coarse, pigmented hair that replaces vellus in certain areas e.g. scalp, eyelashes, eyebrows, pubic region, underarm, chest & beard in men

7 Causes of superfluous hair growth
This can also be described as hypertrichosis or hirsutism Hypertrichosis abnormal growth of excess hair Hirsutism pattern of hair growth abnormal for person’s gender All hair growth is regulated by hormones and therefore endocrine disorders can have a major influence on hair growth problems
