2 A light-dependant reaction is the steps in photosynthesis that convert the energy from the sun, into chemical energy in ATP and NADPH, which gives off oxygen. Chlorophyll absorbs and transfers solar energy to high- energy electrons and it goes through a series of proteins, this is called the electron transport chain. NADP + molecules accept high-energy electrons to form NADPH. NADPH carries the electrons and their energy to the next phase, the light-independent reactions. ATP molecules are formed due to the release of oxygen gas and ATP transfers to the light-independent reactions to provide energy for the next phase.

3 The second set of reactions in photosynthesis is called the light-independent reaction. This reaction uses energy converted from the light in the beginning of photosynthesis and can be finished without a light source. This reaction is also known as the Calvin cycle. The cycle uses six carbon dioxide molecules and produces one single six-carbon glucose molecule. ATP and NADPH provide the energy needed for the light-independent reactions to occur and are produced during the light-independent reactions accure.
