11 Site Layout/Wordpress-izing your site Don’t just do a dumb copy/paste Migration time is a good time to re-think the structure and layout of your site Take advantage of Wordpress features! Decide whether to copy entire site using HTML Import 2 then tweak from there, or just start over Columns/tables Go easy on them! If your current/old site was organized using tables, don’t just copy/paste the table into the Wordpress editor Can change the page layout under “Layout Settings” when editing a page

12 Site Layout/Wordpress-izing your site Use posts for content that has regular updates – events, announcements, pictures, etc. Utilize post categorize for multiple types of updates Example To create a link in the site menu to a page that shows those posts, 2 options: Option 1: https://wp-dev.grc.nasa.gov/users/create-category-news-page/https://wp-dev.grc.nasa.gov/users/create-category-news-page/ Option 2: Activate the “Page Links To” plugin Create a new page: Make the page link to [your site]/category/[category slug] Category slug can be found under “Posts”  “Categories” Example: https://ocio.grc.nasa.gov/gvis/category/education-and-outreach/https://ocio.grc.nasa.gov/gvis/category/education-and-outreach/ Post category pages are a good way to keep content organized – excerpts of most recent posts are displayed first
