Park History In 2000, the City of Cedar Rapids Parks Department brought together a group of citizens interested in off leash areas. K9COLA was founded.

Park History K9COLA worked with the city to plan an OLA. K9COLA raised 50% of original cost of park. Members of K9COLA also provided a tremendous amount of ‘sweat equity’. Cheyenne Park OLA opened on 11/17/2001.

K9COLA Role Educates the public about safe and effective park use. Continues raising funds and providing manpower, to make park improvements. Works directly with the Parks Department. K9COLA, a non-profit organization, continues to play a role in supporting the Cheyenne Park OLA.

K9COLA Role Provides volunteers to empty garbage. Sponsors the OL-CGC tests at park. Provides a newsletter for park users. Keeps looking for ways to make the park better!

Benefits of an OLA Socializes and exercises dogs in a safe environment. Promotes responsible pet ownership. Provides a recreational opportunity for the 36.5% of households owning dogs in Cedar Rapids.
