1 Welcome to BAC’s 4 th Grade Talent Development Parent Meeting

2 We are creating SCHOLARS!  We are teaching our students about what it means to be a “scholar”; how to act like a scholar and become a true “scholar”!

3 Now just a few…  Nuts and Bolts to help you through the year…and keep you one step ahead of your child…

4 Discipline  Oops Sheet: After 3 warnings Students will be asked to fill this out and explain how they got to this point and how they could correct their behavior. 6 Report Cards/Progress Reports Weights of assignments are: 1.0 Tests/Projects 0.5 Classroom Assignments/Quizzes 0.25 Homework A = 93 – 100 B = 85 – 92 C = 77 – 84 D = Below 76

12 Why we use Team Teaching:  To better meet our students needs, we often divide the students into skills groups that includes students from both classes.  Ms. Passe will be teaching Engineering to both classes while Ms. Woods will be teaching new math problem solving strategies.

13 But Two Snowflakes Are Not Alike…  While we collaborate together in many cases, there are some things that we do differently…

14 Why We Use Interactive Notebooks:  Personalized Text Book  Easy Differentiation  Student CHOICE!  Fun!  Independent Thinking  Working Portfolio of the Entire Year  Study Tool  Great Resource for End of the Year Review  Organizational Device  Allows for the 4 C’s: Creativity, Critical Thinking, Collaboration, Communication!

16 4 th Grade TD includes participation in: Reflections Contest Science Fair

17  Begin thinking about a science fair topic and question NOW  Teacher guidance/lessons for each aspect beginning All experimenting done by Winter Break – Science Fair in mid/late January

18 Math Olympiad provide opportunities for students who…  Need to learn how solve problems!  Are in need of some additional challenges in math!  Complain that math is boring!  Enjoy teamwork and competition!   http://www.moems.org/ http://www.moems.org/

19 Math Olympiads…  Takes place during your child’s regular math class once a cycle  Has 5 world-wide contests throughout the year starting in November  Team practice at home and school will make a stronger team  Awards a trophy to the top scorer in each classroom along with certificates, pins and patches to recognize success!

20 Multiplication Facts  The students will be taking at multiplication fact quiz EVERY Friday.  They have 10 minutes to complete 100 facts.  This is an ongoing grade in Power School  Our goal is to have EVERYONE have 100% at the end of the first quarter.

21 And scholars get to participate in Socratic Seminars (aka as Paideia) that help students develop skills in:  Listening  Thinking critically  Referencing the text  Disagreeing “agree-ably”  Scholarly debate and analysis
