This week our class wrote our own books to send away to get published. Here are some steps to make a successful story.

Start by brainstorming different story ideas and pick a genre you like a lot. Here’s one type of pre-write graphic organizer to get your story ideas started.

Here’s a different type of graphic organizer. It’s called a list organizer, and you just make a list of the different story elements you want, like characters, setting and problem.

When writing a draft, first you want to look at your graphic organizer. Take the ideas from that and draft it out on a piece of notebook paper. Go over it and edit and make sure you used C.U.P.S. Then read your story over several more times again. Finally, have a friend or teacher look over it. Now, you are ready for the final copy!

Here is an edited draft. Notice that you can identify all the corrections.

This is another edited draft with a different way of editing. This time, the spelling corrections are circled and Autumn separated the pages in order.

This step is where you take your rough draft and make it perfect. Don’t forget to indent at the beginning of a new paragraph.

It is never too late to make last- minute changes to your final copy. Remember, you can type your final copy or write it out neatly.

First you need to type or write your final copy on your final copy kit.

Make sure your picture is on the back of your dedication page. So it will be with your story.

Here’s Ryan working on his Final copy. Make sure your pictures are neat.

Make sure that your cover is neat. Write your title on your title page. Dedicate your kit to anyone you Would like on the dedication page.

When your kit is finished and it comes back it will look like this.
