Step 1 preparing to write 1. Brainstorm for ideas Make sure you have understood the topic. Then quickly write down all the ideas you can think of.

Step 1 preparing to write 2. Organise your thought Group similar ideas together. Cross out any irrelevant ideas. Give each group a name. Number the groups in a logical order. If you already know the main points you want to include, you can begin by writing the headings and then brainstorm under each heading (for example, a for and against composition)

Step 1 preparing to write 3. Make a plan You should include the following parts: An opening A body A closing

Now you are ready to begin writing, using your plan. Remember: Write in pencil. Leave wide margins for notes and space between lines for additions or corrections. If you can´t think of a word in English, write it in your own language. If you can´t spell a word, write it any way you can. Circle the word so you’ll remember to come back and check it. Write quickly. Don´t worry about neatness or accuracy. Step 2 writing a rough draft

Step 3 improving When you have finished writing your first draft, you’ll need to improve it. Read the draft and check the following : 1. Content and organisation Present your ideas clearly, in a logical order Support your ideas with details and examples Join ideas with linking words

Step 3 improving 2. Grammar, spelling and punctuation Check grammar: word order, subject-verb agreement, pronouns, prepositions, etc. Check spelling Check the punctuation and capital letters

Step 3 improving 3. Audience and purpose Always keep the reader in mind Make your purpose clear to the reader Use a suitable style of language

When you are satisfied with your work, copy it neatly in ink onto a clean sheet of paper. Be sure to include all your corrections. Leave a margin on the left-hand side Make sure your paragraph are clearly indicated. Note: There are two ways of indicating the beginning of a paragraph By indenting : moving the first word of the paragraph to the right (generally preferred for informal letters) By skipping a line before a new paragraph. In this style, called ‘block style’ each new paragraph begins at the left-hand margin Both styles are correct, but be consistent in you writing. Step 4 rewriting

Good writers all agree on certain basic "facts of life" about how to achieve effective writing: Good writing takes time. It can't be rushed. Good writing is organized logically. Good writing is clearly expressed. Good writing depends on maintaining positive attitudes about the project and about yourself as a writer.
