5 COLLECT  Brainstorming lists.  Discuss ideas.  Draw pictures or visual organizers.  Reading and rereading.  Free-writing  Observing teacher demonstrations and think-alouds.

6 PLAN  Make a list.  Make an outline.  Use a graphic organizer.  Make a movie in your head of your story.  Tell your story orally.  Think about your characters, setting, and plot.

7 DRAFT  Skip lines.  Leave spaces in between words.  Use logical spelling.  Use readable neat handwriting.  Reread several times.

8 REVISE (ADD ON OR CHANGE)  Reread out loud to yourself and to a friend.  Add details.  Cut out parts you don’t need.

9 EDIT (FIX)

10 PUBLISH 1. If you are publishing a book you need a cover. 2. Make sure you have illustrations. 3. Use best handwriting or type your piece.
