Pres. Jenny Lawrence, Foods Manager John Travolta, District Nurse Lora Jennings, Nutrition Expert Pierre Lesaunne, Harrison Ford IV: S.D.N.S Vice President Problem: President Jenny Lawrence

 Students have a lack of healthy food options in the lunchroom including vending machines and school provided lunch.  A byproduct of unhealthy options have led to unsatisfactory performance from students in both physical and mental activities  The average cumulative GPA has dropped and teachers have noticed out of control energy (after lunch) and unmotivated tired children (sugar crashes) during later class activities  Students are eating pizza and French fries due to the lack of healthy choices during lunch period(s). Guidelines and Criteria: Harrison Ford IV

 In order to make a change to the format that creates the school lunches we have to create a plan that fits into the “School district nutritional standard” (Or the SDNS) that was established in 1996, as well as an acceptable budget passed by the school’s district committee.  The food that is served must be appealing to the student body of the school. A variety of options must be presented in order to appeal to all aspects of the food pyramid.  The food needs to be affordable, the school must be able to provide beneficial aid towards students who need them, making sure all students have equal opportunity towards a healthy diet. Nutrition Expert Pierre Lesaunne

 Offer water and juices in the vending machines instead of soda  Lower fat % content in milk beverages and no flavored milk options (Such as reducing 2% milk to a skim or 1% milk!)  Use whole grains in every meal  Take junk food options out of vending machines (add granola bars and low-sugar options)  Install a salad bar  Smaller sizes of soda available in machines  Require fruit and veggie options  Offer string cheese as a side option at lunch  Only allow pizza and junk food options two days per week District Nurse Lora Jennings

 Offer water and juices in vending machines Contacted vending machine company to change options in machines, eliminated some of the soda options to 12 ounces.  No flavored milks Offered only plain milk in all cafeterias  Install a salad bar Have a salad bar installed with veggie and fruit options for a healthier choice Nutrition Expert Pierre Lesaunne

Offer water and juices in the vending machines  Students tended to buy more water when it was available in the vending machines. No flavored milks  Students still bought milk even though the other flavors weren’t offered. Install a salad bar  Many students really enjoyed using the salad bar and it was very popular. Improved learning environment  Better evaluations with GPA and energy through-out the school day.
