2
Contents l Who is SISO? l Who is SISC? l Proposal for streamlining the process l Outline of possible new relationship with CS- SAB l Next steps l Possible benefits of SISO as a sponsoring committee l Suggested motion for CS-SAB
3
Who is SISO? l Simulation Interoperability Standards Organization (SISO) l Serves the modeling and simulation (M&S) community (corporations, government) l SISO is a 501(c)3 organization l Goals similar to those of the IEEE l Simulation Interoperability Standards Committee (SISC) commissioned to bring SISO work into IEEE
4
Who is SISC? l SISC is sponsoring committee under IEEE Computer Society Standards Activities Board l The functions of SISC are duplicative to those of SISO l SISC as the sponsoring committee slows the standards development process
5
Proposal for streamlining the process l SISO approached IEEE staff for help l CAG as a sponsor? l Direct reporting to IEEE-SA Standards Board? l A new relationship with CS-SAB?
6
Outline of possible new relationship with CS-SAB l SISO as a sponsoring committee l Delegation of authority by CS-SAB to SISO to submit Project Authorization Requests (PARs) directly to the IEEE- SA Standards Board l In accordance with CS-SAB procedures
7
Next steps l Agreement, in principle, by SISO to an open process l Agreement, in principle, by CS-SAB to consider possibility of SISO as a sponsoring committee l CS-SAB approval of SISO policies and procedures l Commission of SISO l Decommission of SISC l Transfer of SISC standards
8
Possible benefits of SISO as a Sponsoring Committee l Supportive of Computer Society’s strategy of entering into strategic alliances l Strategic Plan for the IEEE Computer Society, 2001 Edition l Opportunity for standards coordination with M&S standards community l SISO conferences (3X year) attract 1000+ participants (even overseas) l Opportunity for Computer Society participation in multi-year governmental initiative l Future Combat Systems
9
Suggested motion for CS-SAB l The CS-SAB agrees, in principle, to consider the commission of Simulation Interoperability Standards Organization as a sponsoring committee.
