4 Today’s Objectives SWBAT understand their classmates and themselves. SWBAT describe why Chemistry is important. SWBAT describe basic classroom procedures.

5 Survey Responses Sticker Talk – let the stickers do the talking Use your responses to survey questions…  4, 5, 16, 17, 18, and 19 Place stickers on the posters around the room showing your “YES” or “NO” answer to each question After you’re done sticking, walk around to see your classmates responses! Any similarities between yourself and the class?

6 What is Chemistry? Chemistry is the study of matter, their properties, and reactions! Scientists have studied and figured out things for hundreds of years.

12 So Why Do We Care? Chemistry is cool! Chemistry is on the GEE (Graduate Exit Exam), which you need to pass to graduate high school Chemistry is required for TOPS Want money?  The more education you get, the more money you earn. On average, college graduates earn $22,000 more than high-school graduates, every year.

19 Absences/Make-Up Work If you were absent yesterday… GGo over to the front lab bench FFind the “This Week” container FFind the “Monday” folder TTake one copy of each handout from the folder RRed Weekly Worksheet folder on cabinet Make-up work MUST be turned by the end of the week you come back to school. No late assignments accepted!

20 Early Finishers If you ever finish ALL your work early… GGo over to the Absences/Honors station FFind the “Early Finishers” bin TTake out this extension work, and work on it! Every item of extension work you complete is worth extra credit points.

26 The Achievement Gap Article: Homework Reading Time Please quietly read the article. You may begin answering the questions. If you finish the assignment before leaving class (WITH ALL QUESTIONS ANSWERED), please leave it in your group folder.
