3 desktop APPLE ICON MENU BAR SPOTLIGHT DOCK LAUNCHPAD Allows you to shut down the computer and access system preferences. Different depending on the active program. Search your computer for files, folders, applications and more. Opens a window with all applications on the computer Place to store a shortcut to any application, file, or folders.

4 dock Divider line – separates the dock between applications and files/folders Left of the line is applications Rights of the line is files and folders Resize the dock by dragging the divider line up or down Add an application or file/folder to the dock by dragging it from its location to the dock. Stacks – opens when a folder is opened from the dock Change the display of the stacks folder by right-clicking on the folder and choose options. Folder may also be opened in Finder by right-clicking on the folder and choosing Show in Finder. DOCK

6 LAUNCHPAD Launchpad - displays all of the apps installed on your Mac. Applications are arranged in pages Reorganize the launchpad by: 1.Click the Launchpad icon on the Dock to open it. 2.You will see icons for each app that is installed on your computer. 12 Multi-touch gestures Predefined motions used to interact with multi-touch devices

13 Pinch to zoom Place your thumb and forefinger on the trackpad and move them apart to zoom in, or move them together to zoom out.

14 Smart zoom Tap the trackpad twice ( double-tap ) with two fingers. If you are using a Magic Mouse, double-tap the mouse with one finger (make sure you are just tapping the mouse, and not clicking). The app will zoom in to the area where the mouse pointer is.

15 Swipe to navigate Swipe to Navigate: Instead of using your web browser's back and forward buttons, you can swipe to the left or right with two fingers (on a trackpad) or one finger (on a Magic Mouse). You can also do this to scroll through different screens in Launchpad.

16 View launchpad View Launchpad (trackpad only): Place your thumb and three fingers on the trackpad and move them together to open Launchpad.

19 finder The Finder allows you to visually access practically everything on your Mac, including applications, hard disks, files, folders, and DVDs. CONTENTS TOOLBAR SIDEBAR Location where changes to the file and folder view are made Location where the contents of the application, file or folder selected will be displayed. 21 finder DIFFERENT VIEW OPTIONS ICON VIEW – allows users to view the contents of a folder or file as icons LIST VIEW – allows users to view the contents of a folder or file as a list. The list can be rearranged depending on the attribute selected. COLUMN VIEW – allows users to view the contents of a folder or file as columns. When a file or folder is selected, each nested folder or file can be selected to open a new column. COVER FLOW VIEW – allows users to visually flip through snapshots of documents, website bookmarks, album artwork, or photographs.

25 File management Creating a new folder 1.Go to the location where you want to create the folder 2.Right-click and select New Folder or go to File > New Folder 3.Type the name of the folder and press Enter

26 File management Rename a folder 1.Click the folder once (do not double-click) 2.Press Enter/Return 3.Type the new name of the folder

27 File management Delete a folder 1.Drag to the trash 2.Click once and press Command + Delete Empty Trash – Right-click trash icon and choose empty trash Ejecting a drive – MUST DO THIS if you plug in anything to a USB drive. Right-click drive and choose EjectRight-click drive and choose Eject

30 i cloud Lets you access your music, photos, calendars, contacts, documents, and more, from whatever device you’re on Setting up iCloud 1.Create an Apple ID - Apple ID link Apple ID linkApple ID link 2.Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu on your Mac. Click iCloud, enter your Apple ID, and select the services you’d like to enable. 3.Enable Photo Stream in iPhoto or Aperture - Open iPhoto ’11 (version 9.2 or later) or Aperture (version 3.2 or later) and click the Photo Stream icon in the left column. Then click Turn On Photo Stream. 4.Turn on iCloud for the rest of your devices.
