2 INTRODUCTION The word “ Library” is rich in tradition, meaning and usage. Throughout the world the library of a school is considered as part and parcel of academic setup. It is created and maintained to serve and support the educational activities of the school. Library is the heart of school’s academic activities in any institution of higher studies. The school library provides information, inculcates ideas and develops knowledge, learning skills, creative thinking . So, school library is a basic and fundamental requirement.

3 SCHOOL LIBRARY OBJECTIVES
1. Be the knowledge hub of the school. 2. Facilitate creation of new knowledge. 3. Facilitate optimal use of knowledge by all staff and students. 4. Ensure easy access to the facilities availble to all staff and students. 5. Encourage and foster reading habit among staff and students. 6. Effectively participate in the teaching-learning programmes of the school.

4 IMPORTANCE OF LIBRARY AND LIBRARIAN’S WORK
The library facilities at school are essential to make children; library orientated and inculcate reading habits among them. Once the reading habit if formed at the school, it continues throughout life. The librarian should see that all the library collection should be organized well, so that it is easily accessible to the students and teachers for effective use. These jobs are, beyond doubt, specialist jobs. They cannot be done by the teachers.

Book reviews published in the newspapers and magazines from time to time. Publishers catalog. The first and foremost is to know and assess readers demand/requirements. This can be done from the following. Invite suggestions from the faculty and students to know about their requirements and reading interests. See the latest syllabus and note down the books prescribed for all courses for which instruction is provided in the school. Request the Heads of the Departments and Staff at the Circulation counter can also be requested to note down the names of the books, which the students generally demand but were not available on the library. 18 DEVELOPING READING HABIT:
The Nation that reads is the Nation that leads. One of the most important tasks of the school library is to inculcate reading habits among young generations. Books are the mute entities; their application does not come automatically. It always requires some human agency that can induce the value of books among the students. In the school environment this human agency is Teacher/Librarian. To achieve this there must be close coordination between classroom teaching and use of Library resources. It is an important part of Teacher/Librarian's role to encourage reading and library use positively. To assure the best results it would be necessary to provide regular and continuous service by the Librarian in the use of Library. The students need to be taught about the variety of books available in the library. How to select books, how to read them, how to take notes, how to related information collected from various books, Maintenance and handling of books etc.

22 MOTIVATIONAL TECHNIQUES
Some techniques to motivate students to take up reading are: Reading camp : The program aims at exposing students to various skills viz speed reading, information handling skill. Read aloud to children : Teacher can use audio cassettes for healthy reading habits. In this way, child can share happy reading moment with their teacher. Book talk : Low cost-effective strategy with ability to reach a wide audience is book talk. Dramatic activities: The approach is to outline a theme, based on a story or part of a book which can then with the cooperation of children and the person in charge, be demonstrated in a dramatic form, each child undertaking and improving a role. Picture book: National book week celebration. 14th to 20th nov. every year.

23 MOTIVATIONAL TECHNIQUES:
QUIZ COMPETITION : the quiz is aimed at encouraging students to read beyond their textbooks in school and promotion of books as a source of information. This activity can be taken up once in a month for different levels of classes. BOOK REVIEW : Each class in rotation can be asked to present book review in the morning assemble on a designated day. Information about author's biographies : Holiday assignment exhibition : During the long summer vacations, many students are at a loss to know hoe to spend their time fruitfully. they do not relish the usual type of routine home assignments, but if they are asked to prepare some interesting models, charts and projects on subjects of their choice, using information form the books, it is amazing how much creative work is produced- working models make out of scrap material, colorful charts and albums containing exciting new information on the latest technological developments taking place in different countries of the world. Share the biographies of authors which are suitable to them and tell them to read their books. Give awards : Always reinforce positive behavior. Therefore, make sure you award certificates or some token or even extra credit points for increased reading activity.

24 USE OF NEW TECHNOLOGY : Today's world is the world of information technology. There are number of choices available to readers whether he or she wants to read for recreation or for professional growth. The internet is flooded with all kinds of information one wants to dabble in. the only requirement for developing reading skills through new technologies is an adequate exposure of students to the vast world of digitized information. There are new technologies which can be clubbed with their reading. Some of them are Now day's students are required to do a lot of work in the form of assignments and projects which requires the help of the internet. They need to be specific in providing the names of the sites to look for the specific information. This is to avoid the wastage of time. LCD projectors for used to present information. This is a very useful technique of summarizing information in points which students are encouraged to read and note down. Use of E-Books in education.

25 USE OF NEW TECHNOLOGY E-BOOKS:
Its Electronic book which comes in digital version. Unlike the traditional book which we see physically on paper and in print form, it has to be read on a computer screen. For reading a e-book, one would need e-book reader software. E-book reading devices are also available which facilitate e-book reading. E-JOURNAL: E-Journal is the digital version of the print journal. E-Journals are made available by the Publishers to the prospective readers/users via internet and .

26 USE OF NEW TECHNOLGY Teacher’s can also use such technology at school with mamerous interactive reading programs and assessments that are available free online. There are also sites that charge a subscription fee for the use on an annual basis. Reading games for students of all ages also free to use online. Reading skills are important in all areas of the curriculum- Math's, Science, Social Studies, Art and Music, students must be able to read and understand the questions and know what it is they are asked to perform.
