3 Modals: Auxiliary Verbs
Use modals to make requests, offer or ask permission “May we leave now?” “Could you help me?” Use modals to discuss ability/inability, possibilities/impossibilities “I shouldn’t go because my class might have a test today” They are always used with a verb. Never alone. They have no verb tense of their own. Will Not/ Would not Could/Might May Should (had better, ought to) Must (have to, hafta) Will / Would (more polite) Increasing probability
