1 Mrs. Loggins’ Second- Grade Class Welcome, parents!

2 Welcome to Second Grade! I am Mrs. Loggins, and I am very excited about being your child’s teacher. Mrs. Ballard will be our assistant. We are looking forward to a great year.

3 All About Me My Experience –I’ve been teaching for 14 years. –I taught for six years and then was blessed to be a stay at home mom for 6 years. –I came back to work when Overpark opened so this is my eighth year at Overpark. –Due to my husbands job, I have had the opportunity to teach in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Mississippi. –I have taught kindergarten through fourth grade, but second is my favorite.

4 All About Me My Education I have a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology from Florida State. I have a Bachelor’s of Art in Elementary Education from the University of West Florida. I have a Master’s in Elementary Education from the University of South Carolina.

6 My Goals To give your child the academic and social skills they need to succeed in life. To provide a supportive and fun classroom environment. To help your child make new friends and discover new interests.

9 Newsletter The Newsletter is sent home on Fridays allowing students that need extra time the opportunity to study. At the top of the newsletter you will find my school website if you need to contact me. You may also want to mark Overpark Elementary as a favorite. This website will have a copy of the newsletter and you will find some helpful websites like spellcity, gamequarem, and Pete’s powerpoints.

10 Take Home Folder Please check it each night for notes from school, homework, and completed class work. Please clean it out each night and use it to return notes, money, and homework.

11 Graded Paper Folder Folder is sent home on Wednesdays. Test Grade Report Please sign the report and return it the next day. You may keep the papers. If your child has a low score, I will ask you to correct it and return it.

12 Report Card Due to the new curriculum, Common Core, our report cards will follow these guidelines. There will be a language arts block. It will be one grade that consists of: Language Skills Test- 30% Reading Skills Test- 50% (skills and cold reads) Spelling/Phonics and Vocabulary– 10% Performance Based Assessments – 10% (writing, listening, speaking, and fluency)

13 Reading Assessment Your child will be assessed 3 times a year using the Fountas and Pinnell assessment emphasizing fluency and comprehension. You will receive the results once testing is complete stating your child’s level and grade equivalent. Your child’s goal is a level M by the end of the year to be on grade level.

14 Behavior Chart The number of the rule that has been broken is marked on the folder. The total number of conduct points for the week is also recorded. The chart at the bottom explains the grade your child will receive depending on the number of conduct points.

15 Behavior Mark System Your child will receive 3 warnings before they receive a conduct point. One conduct point- Think About It Note Two conduct points- Miss recess and a note sent home so you will be aware of the problem right away.

18 Addition Time Tests Begin this week Averaged for one grade Math Fact Café-flash cards, worksheets Website games on my website ex: Harcourt game Math Journal This will have helpful strategies and terms being used during the common core math lessons.

20 -Lunch $2.50 -extra milk or juice 50 cents -Breakfast Daily 7:55-8:15 -the cost is $1.25 -Snack Cart 7:55-8:25 -everything is 75 cents -New Attendance Policy -The student must be present 63% of the day -If a child misses 2 hours and 17 minutes they are counted absent.
