6 The Sport Governing Body for Karate in Ontario GOALS ( Long Term) Pan-Am Games 2015 National Team composed of 40% Ontario athletes 2 podium appearances by KO athletes at Pan- Am Games 2015 Consistently have 3 KO athletes finish in top 8 at world championships (junior and senior) Increase world championship podium results by KO athletes to 1 senior and 1 junior medal per event, consistently, after 2015. Implement new Integrated HP system

11 The Sport Governing Body for Karate in Ontario Competition Calendar The Competition Calendar must include all Team tournaments (National and Provincial) KaOn HP Committee will select Open Tournaments and rank them Calendar has to be defined before the beginning of each competition season and revisited monthly

13 The Sport Governing Body for Karate in Ontario Performance Calculation - example Each tournament selected for the HP group will be ranked…A, B, C or D in terms of difficulty in winning (Example: Worlds ranked A, US Open ranked B and KaOn tournament is ranked D) Each rank will be quantified by a Factor of Difficulty (Example: ‘A’ Rank tournaments will have Factor difficulty 10, ‘B’ Rank 5 and ‘C’ Rank 3 and D Rank 1) The factor will be used to multiply the base number of points earned at the tournament Need to determine the Base number of Points for each place (Example: Gold 50 points, Silver 25 points, Bronze 12.5 points, 5- 8 place 5 points). Base numbers are different for each HP group

14 The Sport Governing Body for Karate in Ontario Funding Plan The funding of the athletes will be driven by performance (points) HP program will be funded from: Karate Ontario, Q4G, Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sport, Trillium, Business sponsorships, Family, Club fundraising Annual HP budget is expected to grow from $20,000 in 2013 to $50,000 after 2015

15 The Sport Governing Body for Karate in Ontario Establishing Provincial Benchmarking system Provides realistic and achievable targets Creates an atmosphere conducive to continuous improvement (Kai Zen) Allows athletes to visualize the improvement, which can be a strong motivator for further improvements Creates a sense of urgency for improvement Provides transparent measurement showing that there is a need for change Helps to identify weak areas and indicates what needs to be done to improve KO will establish benchmarks for the HP Groups in 2013

17 The Sport Governing Body for Karate in Ontario Establishing HP Training Environment In order to provide the conditions for frequent HP training sessions, KO will introduce HP Training Centres (TrC) HP TrC can be existing clubs/dojos or another KO HP committee-approved facility Two basic criteria will be followed in the HP TrC selection process, Convenience and Coaching staff

18 The Sport Governing Body for Karate in Ontario HP Training Centers Location of TrC needs to be convenient TrC need to be available for HP group training during Prime time (between 6-9pm) or weekends There should be 4 to 6 HP TrC in GTA – Ontario The TrC will need to possess basic HP equipment HP Groups will be trained by the HP Coaches/Instructors - Minimum Certification level of the Coaches/Instructors will be defined for each group

20 The Sport Governing Body for Karate in Ontario Establishing Integrated Support Team (IST) To have an IST Coordinator Create the Strategy for building an effective IST in a real KaOn environment What’s most needed Physiologists, Psychologists, Nutritionists Recruiting (introducing) process Volunteers, University students, Grad work, Athlete’s parents, HP coaches etc.

23 HP Athletes competing in KO Tournaments Adding Rising Star 12-13 into Elite Divisions Make HP trainings mandatory for all KO Team members Request mandatory participation in all KO tournaments for all seeded athletes (KC Team) Allow registration for seeded athletes with 0 (zero) tournament fee

24 The Sport Governing Body for Karate in Ontario Add Rising Stars (12-13) into Elite Divisions The Kumite categories need to be divided according to the weights At least we should have two categories for male and two for female athletes. Two categories -45KG and +45Kg for female 12-13 athletes Two categories -48KG and +48Kg for female 12-13 athletes

25 The Sport Governing Body for Karate in Ontario HP training enforcement mechanisms The HP trainings are necessary (KO HP Plan - Gap analyses) Talented (HP) athletes rarely train together, or don’t train in a HP-oriented clubs/centres Make HP monthly trainings mandatory – they will replace KO team preparation trainings KO to sponsor (financially support) HP monthly trainings HP Monthly trainings are mandatory for all 4 HP groups
