4 2010 - 2012 Established a safety committee Developed school building emergency plans Developed new classroom emergency plans (Flip chart) Trained administrators in NIMS Numbered all buildings to be NIMS compliant Created inside and outside extra-curricular emergency plans

5 2010 – 2012 Developed building carry-out cases Added additional building level cameras (with more planned) Added additional building level radios (with more planned) Attended safety conferences and training exercises

14 Low Cost / No Cost Expectations Limited student entrances (High School) Limit public usage of facilities during the school day Current up-to-date maps of the buildings Interior doors logically numbered with visible numbers at the top of the door Providing Police with a master key(s) so that officers can access the building in times of emergency

15 Low Cost / No Cost Expectations Train for all emergency situations Involve SRO’s/Emergency Officials in drills After action review for all drills and real life events Provide staff training for general safety: drills/trainings, how to use a fire extinguisher, CPR, AED, etc. Develop table top exercises Building level staff meetings devoted to safety

16 Higher Cost Long Term Goals Buzz In system with camera at every main entrance Strategically placed cameras Universal Key/Lock system: Staff Visitor ID used for entry into building Ability to communicate district wide with handheld radios Shades on every exterior classroom window that are able to be drawn if necessary Improve/increase exterior lighting at building perimeters and parking lots

17 Staff’s Responsibility to Keep Kids Safe If something is unsafe make the change, submit the work order, etc If someone is suspicious ask who they are or inform someone Take all drills seriously and have students take them seriously

18 Staff’s Responsibility to Keep Kids Safe Take a minute to think about situational emergencies and how you would react (we can’t drill everything) When appropriate talk to your students about their role in an emergency situation Empower staff to make decisions based on the situation (Can’t drill every situation)
