2 First Step: Open a Microsoft Word document and save it by the name of your choice.

3 Second Step: Click on “INSERT.”

4 Once you have clicked on “INSERT,” click on “CHART.”

5 After clicking on “CHART,” you should see the window below. Choose the first chart. Then click on “OK”

6 Once you click “OK,” the WORD document should shrink to half its size, and the EXCEL spreadsheet should open up with some sample data as shown below.

7 The EXCEL spreadsheet that opened up right next to the word document is linked to it so any change you make to the data in the spreadsheet will change in the WORD document. Also, if you need to add more than 4 values to the spreadsheet, make sure to drag the lower right corner of the range.

8 Some of you may not know how to drag the corner of the range. All you have to do is place your cursor on the corner of the range which is the blue line. Then left click on the corner, and drag it down to desired range. As you can see, a little black arrow has appeared when you left clicked the mouse.

9 As you start dragging the edge, you will see a dotted gray line appear and extend to where you move the cursor.

10 You need to add the values to the chart below. To do so you will click once on the chart, and then click on “DESIGN.” Next, click on “QUICK LAYOUT,” and finally click on the diagram that best suits your chart. If you need to only insert numbers, you can follow the directions on the following slide. Depending on your data this could be your end result. 1 2 3 4 5

11 If you want your chart only to display the values you typed in and not percentages, follow these steps. First, click on the chart until you see a grayish border around it. 2). Now click on “LAYOUT”. 3). Following that click on “DATA LABELS”. 4).After you have clicked on “DATA LABELS” choose from the list of options.

12 Second, you need to change the values in the spreadsheet that read “1 st Qtr, 2 nd Qtr., etc…” to your values. As you can see below, the values on the WORD document have changed.

13 After modifying your spread sheet and depending on your data, your pie chart in WORD should look similar to this. OR

14 Now you need give the chart a name. A chart title needs to be given. 1). Click on the chart once until you see this border. 2). Click on “LAYOUT” up at the top. 3). Click on “CHART TITLE” and then go to step 4. 4). Choose the location of your chart title.

15 Your chart should resemble something like this after giving it a title.

16 Now if you want to change the color of the chart, simply click on “DESIGN,” and choose your color or follow the steps on the next slide.

17 Click on “QUICK STYLES.” Once this is done, this screen should pop up. Click on your color.

18 Your chart should look similar to the one below.

19 Once you are done modifying your pie chart, you can insert it into a document by copying and pasting it. Click once on the pie chart, right click and choose “COPY.” Then “PASTE” it in your essay.
