2 Chris BoothUniversity of Sheffield 2 Target Infrastructure – Fibres & Cables MICE LCR ↔ Power supply ↔ Drive. Installation in hand (Andy Nobbs/Steve Warner). Fibres delivered. Cables specified by Daresbury Laboratory (DL). Stepper motor (isolation) control under construction (DL). Awaiting schedule from AN (depends on access to ISIS) – promised today! (Intermediate) patch panels need defining.

3 Chris BoothUniversity of Sheffield 3 Stator – Bearings & Flanges After bedding in, immeasurable dust from leaded bronze! Now testing diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating. Other solutions being investigated: –Capton/Vespel (polyimide) –Magnetic ??? Discussions with Steve Payne (ISIS) –Suggests pump/valve below beam-pipe. Under investigation. –Draw up document for next CM/TB, to go to ISIS Flanges being ordered –Tendering & delivery ~6 weeks –Then test welded seal procedure

4 Chris BoothUniversity of Sheffield 4 Removal of prototype target Discussion with Paul Wright last week. Planned for November maintenance period. Need complete definition of procedure: –Support to be made in Sheffield –Storage flask for radioactive target to be specified –Estimate of radio-isotope composition and activity of irradiated target required Removal of prototype will act as “dry run” for future removal of much more active targets.
