3 Hinduism Hinduism: A complex compilation of belief systems from India, rooted in sacred texts that celebrates a verity of different deities History- ‘Hinduism’ is a relatively modern term but Hindu traditions go back several thousand years Formed from the intermixing of two distinct cultures of the Aryans and the Indus Valley civilization. 4 Beliefs Absolute authority for religious knowledge is written in the Vedas Vedas- Sacred scripture symbolizing unchallenged authority and tradition The belief of reincarnation Samsara-existence is a cycle of birth, death, and rebirth which is governed by Karma Karma- the law of cause and effect by which each individual creates his own destiny by his thoughts, words and deeds.
