Planning For Our Own Film The target audience for our film & trailer is going to be young adults with interests in other dystopian films as well as comics, graphic novels, and other similarly related media products. We plan on rating our film as a 12A to ensure a wide audience whilst also being able to include dangerous behaviour, moderate violence, moderate language, action sequences and weapons (but not glamorised) - however in retrospect this may change to a 15 due to the nature of the film involving 'gangs' of rebels and the violent enforcement of the government.

From what I have discovered, using research from similar films, dystopian films are shifting from previously being aimed at a mostly male audience (The Matrix, Sin City) to becoming more diverse by including strong female protagonists (The Hunger Games, How I Live Now). For this reason, we have chosen to have a lead female character, Lilith, to help appeal to all genders and to make our film more postmodern. We are not, however, making her a 'hero' due to our USP: that our main character – thought to be the protagonist - is actually a false hero. I feel as though this is an important element to our film as it not only challenges Hollywood's conventional use of Todorov's theory (by making the protagonists and antagonists clear cut and obvious, something we don't want to do), but it also gives our film a memorable and unique quality that stops Lilith from becoming a bland character. As our target audience is predominantly teenagers and young adults, our marketing is going to make use of Web 2.0, using social network sites such as Facebook, Tumblr and Twitter.

6. THE MATRIX Rebirth scene: uses pods in which people are stored. Recreated in our own film when the main character wakes up in a pod with wires stuck to her arms. 1984 Humans are drugged into becoming drones for the government. References a corrupt totalitarian society run through hierarchy. TILT SHIFT A lens baby was used to create this effect, choosing to include it as a postmodern element that isn’t often seen in mainstream films. TIME REMAPPING Used by Guy Ritchie in Snatch, it accentuates action by slowing down or speeding up the scene’s duration.
