3 Overall Consequences The Agricultural Revolution had its positive and negative effects on today's society. For example, a food surplus caused the population to grow. At first this was great for the world, but now it is getting out of control. Also, the expanding population caused the development of cities and settlements. To control the large amount of people a form of government was needed. This started job specialization and social classes, which increased the wealth of certain communities. The varying wealth between cities caused the idea of war by attacking other settlements and taking their resources. The Agricultural Revolution was a huge turning point in society, but the food surplus has also given us many problems as well.
