Why the changes? New developments Role Delineation Study (RDS) Keep the certification and exam up to date You might be wondering why PMI has made changes to the PMBOK. Just like any other profession, Project Management is a dynamic discipline that is constantly evolving. An ever-changing business environment, new technologies, and new standards necessitate updates to the practice of Project Management. Naturally, changes in the practice of Project Management requires changes to the PMP credential and exam. For this purpose, PMI conducts a Role Delineation Study (RDS) every 5 to 7 years. The purpose of the RDS is to assess what changes need to be made to the PMP credential so that it aligns with and reflects the way experienced project managers are conducting Project Management around the world. Another reason for the RDS is to ensure compliance with the PMP credential’s accreditation against the ISO standard. The changes included in PMBOK 5 are based on the results of the latest RDS. The following slides will provide an overview on the changes implemented in PMBOK 5 PMP, CAPM, PgMP, PMI-SP , PMI-RMP, OPM3 and PMBOK  are registered marks of Project Management Institute, Inc Inov8Solutions Inc – Quality Educational Services For Professionals 1-3

New Knowledge Area Stakeholder Management Chapter 13 Of PMBOK® Guide 5th Edition Emphasizes Stakeholder Management as a distinct function Note for Kamran...can we do an animation showing the split of stakeholder management from communication management? In PMBOK 4, there was no separate knowledge area for managing stakeholders; managing stakeholders was part of Communications Management Separating Communications Management and Stakeholder Management makes it clear that rather than being merely an aspect of managing communications, managing and engaging stakeholders requires proper planning , monitoring, and controlling and needs to be a separate function that is critical for project success. 5 10 Knowledge Areas in PMBOK 5
1. Integration Management 2. Scope Management 3. Cost Management 4. Time Management 5. Quality Management 6. Risk Management 7. Human Resource Management 8. Communications Management 9. Procurement Management 10. Stakeholder Management Note for Kamran...can we do an animation here that highlights each knowledge area as it’s being mentioned in the narration? With the addition of Stakeholder Management as a separate Knowledge Area, there are now 10 Knowledge Areas in PMBOK 5. They are: Integration Management, Scope Management, Cost Management, Time Management, Quality Management, Risk Management, Human Resource Management, Communications Management, Procurement Management, and Stakeholder Management. 6 Rules for Handling Inputs, Tools and Techniques, and Outputs (ITTOs)
Business rules have been established Fundamental Rules Project Document Rules Project Management Plan Rules Sequencing Rules ITTO terminology redefined PMBOK 5 establishes business rules to clearly define ITTOs to aid their understanding and usage Some important broad categories of these business rules are: Fundamental Rules, Project Document Rules, Project Management Plan Rules, and Sequencing Rules. Examples of Fundamental Rules are: “Inputs are any documents that are key to the process” “Process inputs should map as an output from another project management process unless the input comes from outside the project.” The 2 Project Document Rules are: “On the ITTO list, if the input is a major project document, it needs to be specifically listed out” “On the ITTO output list, specific project documents are put on the list the first time they are created as an output. Subsequently, these are listed as “project document updates” on the ITTO output list, and described in the section narrative.” Examples of Project Management Plan Rules are: “On the ITTO input list, for those planning processes that create a subsidiary plan, the project management plan is listed as the key input” “On the ITTO output list, subsidiary plans and baselines for the project management plan are grouped as a single output as “project management plan updates” and described in the section narrative.” Example of Sequencing Rules are: “For inputs, and outputs: plans, subsidiary plans, and baselines are listed first” “Enterprise environmental factors and organization process assets are listed last in that order” “Tools and techniques have meetings listed last” PMP, CAPM, PgMP, PMI-SP , PMI-RMP, OPM3 and PMBOK  are registered marks of Project Management Institute, Inc Inov8Solutions Inc – Quality Educational Services For Professionals 1-6

7 Redefinition of Project Management Work Execution Data
Redefined for clarity Work Performance Data, Work Performance Information, and Work Performance Reports PMBOK 5 seeks to provide more clarity and consistency with regard to Work Performance Data, Work Performance Information, and Work Performance Reports by clearly defining the meaning and purpose of each element. PMBOK 5 defines each entity as follows: Work Performance Data are “the raw observations and measurements identified during activities performed to carry out the project work.” Work Performance Information is “the performance data collected from various controlling processes, analyzed in context and integrated based on relationships across areas.” Work Performance Reports are “the physical or electronic representation of work performance information compiled in project documents, intended to generate decisions, raise issues, actions, or awareness” PMP, CAPM, PgMP, PMI-SP , PMI-RMP, OPM3 and PMBOK  are registered marks of Project Management Institute, Inc Inov8Solutions Inc – Quality Educational Services For Professionals 1-7

5 New Processes Five planning processes have been added: 4 Planning processes: Plan Scope Management Plan Schedule Management Plan Cost Management Plan Stakeholder Management 1 Monitoring and Controlling process: Control Stakeholder Engagement Note for Kamran...can we do an animation here that shows process numbers going from 42 to 47 These five processes were not part of PMBOK 4. The first four are planning processes that have been added to bring more clarity and consistency with regard to subsidiary plans that comprise the overall project management plan. The impetus for adding these processes was to emphasize that each knowledge area requires active thinking and planning. The last one, Control Stakeholder Engagement, is part of Stakeholder Management With the addition of these 5 processes, there are now 47 processes in PMBOK 5, whereas there were 42 processes in PMBOK 4. Processes Renamed Many processes have been renamed “Plan {XXX} Management” processes “Control {XXX}” processes Note for Kamran...animate “New processes” and “process renames” mentioned in the narration. Many processes have been renamed in PMBOK 5. Again, this was done to establish more consistency. The following rules were applied in renaming processes: Processes that create a subsidiary plan were named using the form “Plan {XXX} Management” Monitoring and Controlling processes were named using the form “Control {XXX}” Other processes were renamed to make the names more clear The following is a comprehensive list of the changes in processes: New processes that have been added are: Plan Scope Management Plan Schedule Management Plan Cost Management Plan Stakeholder Management Control Stakeholder Engagement Processes have been renamed as follows: Direct and Manage Project Execution is now Direct and Manage Project Work Verify Scope is now Validate Scope Plan Quality is now Plan Quality Management Perform Quality Control is now Control Quality Develop Human Resource Plan is now Plan Human Resource Management Plan Communications was renamed to Plan Communications Management Distribute Information has been changed to Manage Communications Report Performance is now Control Communications Monitor and Control Risks has been changed to Control Risks Plan Procurements has been renamed as Plan Procurement Management Administer Procurements is now Control Procurements Manage Stakeholder Expectations has been changed to Manage Stakeholder Engagement PMP, CAPM, PgMP, PMI-SP , PMI-RMP, OPM3 and PMBOK  are registered marks of Project Management Institute, Inc Inov8Solutions Inc – Quality Educational Services For Professionals 1-9

12 Exam Cutover Date Exam Date PMBOK Guide to use Before July 31, 2012
PMBOK® Guide 4th Edition On or after July 31, 2012 PMBOK® Guide 5th Edition The cutover date, which is the date on which the PMP exam will be based on PMBOK 5 and NOT PMBOK 4, is July 31, 2013. This means: If you are taking the PMP Exam before July 31, 2013, you will need to use PMBOK 4. If you are taking the PMP Exam on or after July 31, 2013, you will need to use PMBOK 5. If you are using other materials or exam prep guides to study from, make sure you know which version of PMBOK the material is based on. Note: If you are already a PMP credential holder, these changes do not affect you directly. You will have to follow the Continued Certification Requirement (CCR) program to maintain your PMP credential. Advice Decide on exam date Study from correct PMBOK® Guide Understand the changes It is understood that the publication of a new PMBOK Guide presents some challenges to those currently pursuing the PMP certification, especially for those who are studying from PMBOK 4 and plan on taking the exam after July 31, 2013. Here are some steps to help you with your situation: Decide when you want to take the PMP exam. If you are studying from PMBOK 4 and are taking the exam prior to July 31, 2013, you are fine. If you have been studying only from PMBOK 5 and are taking the exam on or after July 31, 2013, you are fine. Make sure all materials you are using for your study are based on PMBOK 5. However, if you are studying from PMBOK 4 and are taking the exam on or after July 31, then you have 2 options: Reschedule the exam to a date prior to July 31, 2013 or Keep your current exam date and start studying from PMBOK 5, making sure that any other references you are using are also based on PMBOK 5. Make sure you understand thoroughly the changes that have been implemented from PMBOK 4 to PMBOK 5.
