Montpelier High School 2011-2012

You  What do you want to be?  What does the world look like 10 years from now?  You need options  What motivates you?  Options?  Failure Removes Options.  What Motivates Teachers?  You  Jeff Liechty

What you need (every day)  Paper  Writing Utensils  Anything else the teacher suggests  4 GB Flash Drives are available for $10.00

Computers  Each floor in the high school has 10 laptop computers.  Do not remove a computer from a room without asking the teacher.  Computers should not leave the floor on which they reside – except for the rare exception where there are more students than computers

Detention  Students sent to office will serve detention. Parents will be notified immediately.  If a teacher asks a student not to do something and they do it anyway, the student should expect to serve detention.  If a teacher asks a student to do something and the student refuses, the student should expect to serve detention.

Lunch  Outdoor activities  Indoor activities  What’s allowed at the lunch table

Being Sent to the Office  Unless the teacher says otherwise, if you are sent out of the room for disciplinary measures, you are expected to go to the office.  Do not pass go and do not collect $200.00  If nobody is in the office, check Mrs. Steele’s room. If nobody is in the office or Mrs. Steele’s room, wait.

In-School Suspension -- Policy  Three Detentions for Disciplinary Reasons will Result in an In-School Suspension  9 Unexcused Tardies will Result in an In- School Suspension  Cheating or any Severe Behaviors can Warrant an In-School Suspension  Policy says teachers can give an In-School Suspension

Tardies  Teachers are Responsible for Marking Students Tardy Within PowerSchool.  On the 4 th Tardy of the Semester and every subsequent Tardy, the student will serve a detention – policy does state that after 9 tardies for the year, an in-school suspension will be served.  If the bus makes it to school on time, students driving should make it to school on time.  If you come into the school and are tardy, you need to stop in the office and let Julie know you have arrived safely.

Absences  If you are gone, a parent needs to contact the school either through a note or a telephone call.  I will monitor absences -- 10 absences in a specific class for the duration of a semester means the student will fail that class unless they come in front of the school board and the school board dictates otherwise.  Every absence will cause notification both to you and parents.

Phones/iPods  If a teacher sees you with a cell phone or an iPod touch, it will be taken away. It will find its way to the office and can be picked up by a parent.

Drugs, Alcohol, or Tobacco  Any evidence of drugs, alcohol, or tobacco will result in appropriate disciplinary actions as outlined by the policy book.  Law enforcement will be notified.

Lockers  7 th Grade – (1-10)  8 th Grade – (11-18)  9 th Grade – (19-29)  10 th Grade – (30-42)  11 th Grade – (43-53)  12 th Grade – (54-65)  All Locker Choices must be documented by the end of the week. Julie has a sheet in the office. Undocumented lockers must be kept clean and free of clothing, books, etc. Periodically they will be checked and cleaned.

Hats  Hats off when inside

Bullying  There is a bullying complaint form in the office.  Victims Suffer  Bullies suffer  Cyber-bullying: If you send a text message to somebody, it is theirs  Anything done online is there forever  Students transferring images containing explicit material can be tried as adults… if explicit material stars a minor, students will be deemed sex offenders by law  Stop – block – tell

Attire  Dress nicely – avoid showing parts of yourself which you don’t want the world seeing – or which the world does not want to see  Repeat offenses with the same clothing will result in disciplinary action

Food and Drink  No food or drink in the classroom  Only pop found in machines is allowed  There is no pop in machines  If you are found with pop in your locker, you might be let off with a warning

Anything Else  ???

Policy Book  This is the law governing our school  Policy book is created by the school board  My job is to enforce the policy book  Your advisors will give you a copy and go over pieces of it.  A note from home is required saying parents have seen the policy book. E-mail or paper is fine
