2 GROWING UP  Alphonse Capone was born on January 17, 1899 in Brooklyn, NY to two Italian immigrants  Capone never responded well to authority  Joined gangs early in life  Facing a life of low paying jobs and poverty Capone wanted something more

3 GANG LIFE  When Al was a kid he had begin joining the gang life.  The first gang was the “Brooklyn Rippers” and after that he joined the “Forty Thieves Juniors”.  Gang life influenced a lot of his behavior in school.He was known for cussing and beating up his teachers ( allegedly because she cussed at him and also slapped him too).

4 “ Scarf ace” Capone was often nicknamed “ Scarface because of a scar or cut he had on the side of his face due to a fight he had been in when he was a bouncer for a club.

5 Connections  Capone had city alderman mayors, legislators, governors, congressmen, and over half of the Chicago police force on his payroll.  This could be one of the reasons to explain why Capone could never be put to any of the crimes that he committed.  And why he is still considered the most infamous gangster.

6 His Illnesses  Capone had many sexual contacts with prostitutes in which from one of them he contracted Syphilis.  - had many long terms repercussions in life  - he was unaware that he had contracted this disease  -suffered bronchial pneumonia throughout his life.

7 Illnesses Cont’d  March 11 th,1929 his lawyers formally filed for postponement of his appearance in court because he had been suffering from bronchial pneumonia. However, his failure to appear in court caused for the FBI to began an investigation.  On Nov. 29 th 1929 Capone was sentenced to 11 years in Federal Prison for tax invasion and fined 282,000 in fines and tax refunds.

8  After being in Prison his mental and physical state had deteriorated and he entered Baltimore hospital for brain treatment immediately after his release.  January 25, 1947  Al Capone died of a stroke and pneumonia shortly before having killed Eddie O’Hare before he died.
