2. Do Now: Rap Music  List 10 things which come to mind when you think of rap music.

3. Objectives:  The students will be able to demonstrate their knowledge of describing poetic themes by writing their own rap lyrics.

Focus Lesson: …Rap Artist!  Divide into groups of 3.  In order to receive full credit for this project, each group must:  Decide upon a specific theme which is class appropriate.  Contain class appropriate images and language.  Be at least 30” in length.  Jay-Z video  Why is poetry (rap) important?  Why learn to write it at all??  Small Groups  Decide on a theme.  Agree on 10 images (sights and sounds associated with theme)  Begin putting the images into lyrics.

6. Homework: Rap  Finish the rap by next Friday.  Be prepared to share it by acting it out (20 project points).
