2. Skills The course aims to enable learners to develop their skills in: listening, talking, reading and writing. understanding, analysing and evaluating. creating and producing a range of texts. applying language skills.

4. National 5 Creation and Production Unit Learners will develop talking and writing skills in familiar contexts. Learners will develop the skills needed to create and produce detailed language in both written and oral form.

5. National 5 Analysis and Evaluation Unit Learners will develop listening and reading skills in familiar contexts.

6. National 5 Analysis & Evaluation Learners will develop the skills needed to understand, analyse and evaluate detailed language, through the study of a range of texts in language, literature and media contexts. At least one Scottish text should be studied.

7. National 5 External Assessment Learners will produce a folio containing 2 pieces of writing worth 30% 1 – creative/reflective piece (15 marks) 1 – argumentative/discursive piece (15 marks)

8. National 5 External Assessment Paper 1 – Reading for Understanding & Analysis, Non-fiction passage & questions 30 marks. 1 hour.

9. National 5 External Examination Paper 2 – Critical Reading Section 1 & Section 2 40 marks. 1 hour 30minutes

10. External Examination Paper 2 Section 1 20 marks 45 minutes Write a critical essay on a previously studied, drama text, prose text, poetry text or media text

11. External Examination Paper 2 Section 2 20 marks45 minutes Read an extract from a Scottish text previously studied and answer questions on the extract. One of the questions will ask you to refer to another poem/story by the same writer or another part of the play/novel.
