4 Literary Examples The chapter about a man named Moseigneur in “A Tale of Two Cities” Miss Havisham’s garden and how it’s dirty and disgusting in “Great Expectations” The island itself and the children on it in “Lord of the Flies”

5 Analysis 1 The author’s purpose for writing an allegory about a character is to show how Monseigneur represents the aristocracy of a social class in France. The allegory is supporting his purpose because instead of directing the social class directly he kind of symbolizes the class with just one person in the book to make it fit into the book. Dickens shows how Monseigneur is picky and self- centered.

6 Analysis 2 The allegory is used to show how Miss Havisham’s garden is dirty and trashy which represents the Garden of Eden in the Bible that shows how it’s lost its innocence, but also symbolizes her wealth and social status. His purpose for writing this type of allegory is to show how Pip has lost his knowledge and innocnce throughout the novel.

7 Analysis 3 The island in “Lord of the Flies” represents a society and how society can fall apart because of bad leadership and lack of civilization. The purpose that the author had was to show that a society can break down due to these instances and he uses the children stranded on an island to represent it.
