8 Maths subject leader network meeting Spring 2009 Moderation Moderation  The purpose of in school moderation is to check the consistency of teachers’ judgements after they have made their assessments and resolve any differences

9 Maths subject leader network meeting Spring 2009 Role of the co-ordinator in moderation To ensure all judgements made are consistent across the school and in line with the National Curriculum guidelines

10 Maths subject leader network meeting Spring 2009 Moderation Meeting Models  Dedicated staff meeting  During the day - 2 or 3 teachers meeting to moderate 1 child each  Moderating one level only - e.g. level 3 to ensure all teachers have good understanding of the particular level

11 Maths subject leader network meeting Spring 2009 Sample Questions  What is it that is most significant about the child’s performance that places them in………..level?  When the child is at a borderline, what is it that makes the difference and tips the balance?  What opportunities do you provide for children to demonstrate their knowledge, skills and understanding

12 Maths subject leader network meeting Spring 2009 Sample Questions  What sort of activities do you use to level AT1?  What evidence do you have and how do you collect it to support AT1?  What are your expectations for a child at level…in mental maths?

13 Maths subject leader network meeting Spring 2009 Questions to Consider   Are you aware of any patterns of difference – for example, consistently stricter or more lenient across all AFs, or particular AFs, or are there random differences?   Are there any explanations for the differences?

14 Maths subject leader network meeting Spring 2009 The range and quality of evidence   Is there enough quality evidence to support a judgement in each assessment focus?   Is there an improvement on the previous moderation meeting (if applicable)?   Has planned work enabled pupils to demonstrate what is being looked for?   Is there evidence of independence and choice?
