4 A-L EVEL E XAMS Under the British education system, children attend primary school until age 11 and then go on to attend five years of secondary school. At age 16, all students take a selection of exams (General Certificates of Secondary Education) at Ordinary Level, known as O-Level exams. (our GHSGT) The results of the exams will influence future studies. Compulsory education ends at this point and students choose to either continue education or enter the work force. If they choose education, they will study for two more years before taking the GCSE at Advanced Level or A-Level (SAT, ACT) Students will take tests in 3 or 4 subjects related to a particular area: arts, science, etc. A-Level grades determine university placements, with top grades allowing students to attend prestigious universities. Since they are usually taken at 18, Christopher is quite advanced to be taking his A-Level exams at age 15.
